Yacht support vessels: Specialised support vessels and their specialist requirements
Anyone who thinks that superyachts represent the ultimate in maritime luxury has not yet seen yacht support vessels. These highly specialised support vessels significantly expand the possibilities of a yacht - and place very specific demands on construction, equipment and specialist personnel.

What is a yacht support vessel?
The larger a yacht, the more owners want to have on board - tenders, jet skis, helicopters, large supplies, additional cabins. The problem: space on a yacht is expensive, extras interfere with comfort, and some activities cause noise and vibrations.
Yacht support vessels solve this dilemma. They are built to industrial standards - and are therefore significantly cheaper than a yacht of the same size. What takes up too much space on the main yacht, would be too noisy or would disrupt operations is outsourced to them. The support ship sails ahead of the yacht, prepares the anchorage and has everything ready when the guests arrive.
What a yacht support vessel does
Transport of equipment
Tenders, jet skis, sailing boats, diving containers, cars, motorbikes - everything that has no place on the yacht
Helicopter operations
Landing deck and hangar for 1-2 helicopters - without noise and vibrations on the main yacht
Energy supply
Oversized generators supply power to the yacht - even for large events with hundreds of guests
Fuel supply
Functions as a tanker - fetches fuel from nearby harbours and supplies the main yacht directly
Inventories & Logistics
Oversized pantries and cold stores - delivers food and consumables to the yacht
Additional accommodation
Crew quarters and guest cabins for key personnel or surplus guests
Event area
The open boat deck offers space for open-air parties, sports tournaments, tent set-ups
Special functions
Research equipment, diving systems, seaplane dock, fitness areas
Technology and drive
Yacht support vessels often originate conceptually from the offshore industry - and share its drive technology. Direct drives with diesel engines enable high speeds over long distances when the support vessel has to sail ahead of the yacht. Diesel-electric and hybrid drives are used when efficiency and range are paramount.
The power supply is based on two to four oversized diesel generators. They not only have to cover their own needs, but also supply the main yacht with electricity if required. The engine room is correspondingly large.
Many support ships have a dynamic positioning system (DP) from the offshore sector: it keeps the ship precisely in position without an anchor - important at great depths or in protected marine areas where anchoring is prohibited. Oversized cranes lower tenders into the water, hold platforms for events or serve as tools for maintenance work.
Construction: industry standard meets maritime precision
Yacht Support ships are built to industrial standards - this reduces costs considerably compared to a comparably sized luxury yacht. Nevertheless, they place high demands on construction and equipment: spacious boat decks, powerful engine rooms, complex crane systems, helicopter hangars and diving systems must be precisely integrated.
For shipyards that build or equip support ships, this means a sustained high demand for qualified specialists - from traditional shipbuilders to specialised electrical engineers for DP systems and generator systems.

Request specialists for specialised shipbuilding
Are you looking for qualified personnel to build or equip yacht support vessels or other specialised vehicles? We provide experienced specialists from Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania and other EU countries - quickly, legally compliant and with the right qualifications.
Frequently asked questions
Do Eastern European specialists have experience with offshore-derived ship types?
Yes, many specialists from Poland, Romania and Croatia have experience in building and equipping offshore vessels, supply vessels and specialised vehicles - areas that are closely related to yacht support vessels in terms of design.
Can Eastern European electricians also install dynamic positioning systems (DP)?
DP systems require specialised knowledge. We can search specifically for electrical engineers with offshore or DP experience. Proof of qualifications will be checked and provided in advance.
Are there any fitters from Eastern Europe with experience in crane systems and hydraulic systems?
Yes, industrial mechanics and fitters with hydraulics experience are well represented in Eastern Europe - many have worked in the offshore, industrial or shipbuilding sectors. We filter specifically for this profile on request.
What is the legal procedure for seconded EU staff?
Full freedom of movement for workers applies to EU citizens. We apply for A1 certificates, ensure AÜG compliance and take care of minimum wage reporting to customs - completely and without any effort on your part.
How quickly is staff available for special shipbuilding projects?
Usually within 1-3 weeks. For projects with special requirement profiles - certifications, system knowledge, language skills - we recommend early enquiry.
Do you need subcontractors for specialised shipbuilding projects on a contract basis instead of temporary work? Our sister platform takes care of this zeitarbeit-international.de.
